iGENEA DNA Test: A Journey into the Carstens Ancestry and Self-Discovery

Family name Carstens

A DNA test at iGENEA unveils surprising revelations about mixed ethnic lineage and an unexpected connection to Neolithic civilization. This journey of ancestry tracing alters perceived self-identity, unravelling fascinating facets of the Carstens lineage.

After conducting a DNA test at iGENEA, my understanding of my ancestry, particularly relating to the Carstens lineage, has enormously evolved. The findings have elucidated unanticipated aspects related to my lineage, pivotal influences, and roots. A significant part of my genealogical history was brought to light, and my perspective towards my lineage and myself has been dramatically altered.

Before the DNA test, my knowledge about the Carstens lineage was scanty - a bit of folklore, partly tales from family gatherings, and Jesper Carstens, an ancestor known for his war achievements. I always had the impression that our family was entirely German, reflecting Europe's typical ethnic heritage. The family narrative solely focused on our German roots, with our surname, Carstens, being of predominant German origin.

However, the result proved to be a potpourri of unexpected revelations. The iGENEA DNA test unveiled our family's mixed ethnic heritage, morphing the previously asserted homogenized heritage into a fascinating melting pot of ethnicities. It became evident that our Carstens lineage wasn't entirely German but included part-Jewish and Scandinavian snippets as well.

Discovering Jewish ancestry, an unanticipated snippet from Eastern Europe, evoked mixed emotions. It made me understand the cultural tide my ancestors had sailed through, conflicting between persecution and pride. The Scandinavian roots alongside the German one stirred a sense of pride for our ancestors who survived the Viking invasions.

Perhaps the most impacting revelation was our lineage dating back to Neolithic times, connecting us with a civilization that represents the dawn of a new era in human history. To think my lineage was part of that evolutionary wave amazes me.

This delving into genetic code has changed me, provided a context to my existence, connecting the dots from past to present. I feel a deeper understanding of the journeys of the Carsten lineage, the struggles they might have faced, the diverse cultural influences they were subject to, and the part they played in the path of human evolution.

This revelation has been a journey of self-discovery and has genuinely made me embrace the essence of humanity. After all, if we trace back far enough, we are all been products of fusions of different cultures, battles, journeys, and time.

S. Carstens
